UBC Day of the Longboat
Photos taken at UBC's biggest recreational student event, the Day of the Longboat. Students participate in boat racing along Jericho Beach in Vancouver, BC. Photos taken in water and on a small boat throughout the event and created a challenging photo-taking experience. Images had to align with UBC REC's branding and capture the breadth of the event from the water and the team building experience.
Oregon Coast
A collection of photos from a personal trip down the Oregon Coast. The images represent the Pacific Northwest gothic experience as well as the humanistic experience of a group road trip. The images share a balanced approach between nature and portraits to capture the essence of the coast.
Blank Vinyl Project:
Club Sofa
Photos taken at a livestream concert hosted by UBC's Blank Vinyl Project Club. Photos were taken during the COVID-19 pandemic and demonstrates my experience in a photography studio with restrictions according to social distancing and safety protocols. Images utilized an 85 mm lens to capture photos from a distance and were edited with a film treatment to align with the bands branding.
Cyrus
A portrait session taken on a side street in White Rock, BC. The images were taken using natural street lighting and were organized as a part of an artistic expression. The photos were treated with a 35 mm film edit and meant to evoke a feeling of nostalgia and playfulness.
Suburbia
This photo set takes place at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The images were taken to capture the emptiness of the city and suburbs throughout the pandemic. The images were captured on an independent night shoot and given a 35 mm film treatment to evoke a further sense of nostalgia and emptiness.
Japan
This collection of photos were taken on a personal trip to Japan. The images that were selected for this collection represent the juxtaposition of modernity and traditionalism that occurs in Japanese culture. The images focus on the architecture of Tokyo and introduce temples and older buildings alongside newer development. These images highlight my landscape photography and ability to create meaning out of a photo set through the editing process.
The UBC Great Trek Festival
Similar to Day of Longboat these photos were taken at one of UBC's biggest recreational student event, UBC Great Trek. People participate in a various running races at UBC's Vancouver campus. Photos had to align with UBC's branding and capture a mixture of the participant experience and the actual race. Challenges included timing of imagery and I learned how to interact with participants to obtain more posed images.
